Black British History,
Black people have been in Britain for centuries, however, this presence has been left unrecognised. I adapted the cultural technique of quilting to give visibility to the unrecognised Black presence in Britain during 17th and 19th centuries. I aimed to dismantle the false narrative which suggests that Black people had only arrived in Britain during the late 1940s. I decided not to hem the quilt as it remains incomplete, symbolising the many people that are yet to be discovered and added.
