Helen Pailing
Helen Pailing is an artist-maker who seeks to redefine the possibilities of materials for sculpture and to ‘recraft waste’ into objects, assemblages and site-specific interventions.
An economy of means and material is an integral part of Pailing’s process. Reusing materials destined for landfill is her own quiet activism, a way to bring awareness to seemingly non-precious or waste material and to celebrate the value within all matter.
For Collect Open, she has created wall-based light sculptures that incorporate salvaged glass from the North-East (Mayflower Glass and Wearside Glass Sculptures), where she is currently based.
Pailing has a number of works in private and public collections including the V&A and National Glass Centre.
Supported by Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant and North East Artists’ Fund.
