Sarah Villeneau
Sarah Villeneau creates tactile, abstract sculptural ceramics that defy definition, yet evoke ideas of the body, the sea, organic form. For Collect Open, she has created an interactive display of ceramic assemblages incorporating found objects and textiles in a make-do-and-mend approach. Using repair techniques (stapling, riveting, soldering) as an aesthetic choice, and cloth, rope and string to join and embellish, she creates beauty in the scars of a life well lived. Celebrating the random and the unpredictable and finding grace in the merging of disparate materials, Villeneau hopes that the pieces will offer new ways of thinking and being, an urgent necessity in current times.
