I am fascinated with wood, particularly creating work from freshly felled trees, timber known as green wood. A living material that moves and twists as you work it.
It is a material which can be used to create both practical items and artistic creations. It can be manipulated by the artist but the many inclusions, knots and grain patterns often dictate shape and design forcing the artist to reconsider a piece during the making process. It is a pleasure to work green wood and a challenge.
Focus:
elegant wooden vessels and sculptures for bespoke luxury interiors
I will be exhibiting my Corvus Nero and Corvus Aurum Collections at the Commercial Downtown Design Fair as part of Dubai Design Week with the British European Design Group.
2019 begins at Maison Objet, Paris, 18-22 January, Hall 5A Booth i20.
This is always an inspirational show with exceptional makers and a wealth of ideas.
Come and join the fun!
Maison et Objet has seen the development of large statement vessels ideal for hotels and corporate areas. Standing 400mm high, made from a single piece of wood, these pieces are elegant and unique, often embellished with precious metals.
I primarily use timber from storm damaged or diseased trees. Living within a rural community I value the environment around me and regularly work on the Great Dorset Hedge survey which evaluates the quality of the hedgerows in our countryside, the diversity of the trees and plants, the condition of the hedge - all data that can be used to guide how best to improve the hedge, increase biodiversity and the all round quality of our environment.
