Mobiles
Collection of rush mobiles crafted from British Bulrush, grown in Somerset. I harvest the rush stems and weave them by hand to create the intricate shapes and cordage which make up these delicate pieces. The shapes move gently in the slightest breeze, bringing calm and beauty to any space.

An exploration of movement. This mobile sways gently in the slightest breeze, reminding the viewer of how alive this material is. It’s colour and texture is constantly evolving, evoking a feeling of vivacity and life.
Inspired by moon cycles and the quiet power of the moon in relation to plant growth and harvest. The varying size shapes balance one another creating a sense of harmony.

I was deeply moved and inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book ‘Braiding Sweetgrass’ whilst creating this piece. She analyses the idea of reciprocity, particularly in relation to the natural world. This mobile aims to exemplify the beauty of rush.
