I’m a Berkshire-based woodturner and teacher creating simple, functional pieces that celebrate the wood’s natural beauty. My practice, Love Heartwood, explores the balance between precision and intuition at the lathe. I also teach small-group and one-to-one courses for adults and young people, sharing the calm focus and satisfaction of shaping wood by hand.
Focus:
Traditional wooden toys and homewares made from quality British hardwoods.
Following on from last year's successful craft collaboration - skew & ink, the popular Spring Egg Collection is available once again. This year a new crocus design has been introduced. Love Heartwood is a Rural Business Awards winner after this year’s National Finals. Jules Hudson, the BBC Escape to the Country presenter, once again delighted the finalists as host for the ceremony on Thursday 24th February. The awards recognise and celebrate the successes and vital contributions of businesses to the UK’s rural economy. The Sustainability and Environmental Impact Award was a hard fought category with 2 winners eventually being named. Love Heartwood being one and Coterie Leather, from West Wales, being the other. Love Heartwood was also delighted to take the runner up position, from a final line up of 5, in the Best Artisan/Craft Business category. Sustainability guides every stage of my work, from using locally sourced hardwoods to natural finishes and plastic-free packaging. Offcuts become toys or jewellery, and shavings are reused. I also repair wooden toys to extend their life.
Through Ecologi, Love Heartwood maintains a climate-positive workforce and plants a tree for every purchase — turning each piece into an act of regeneration.
