David Barrow Studio

I am an artist and maker exploring Intersentient States - where material, perception, and enquiry converge through ceramic vessels and sculpted heads.
Cardiff, Wales
David Barrow explores Intersentient States - the meeting of material, perception, and presence - through ceramic vessels and sculpted heads. Rooted in a background of scientific enquiry, his practice merges precision with poetic form. Each work becomes a vessel of awareness, evoking stillness, resonance, and the embodied intelligence of clay in dialogue with memory, balance, and the act of making.
- Focus:
- I focus on ceramic vessels and sculpted heads that embody stillness, resonance, and the perceptual intelligence of form.
David Barrow’s practice embraces material ecology and restraint. He hybridises synthetic and excavated clays from the Cleddau estuary in west Wales, working close to the land’s own temperament. Each vessel is raw-glazed and single-fired, conserving energy and revealing natural surface vitality. Thrown on a foot-driven momentum wheel in an unheated studio, his making follows the seasons, attuned to light, weather, and the quiet intelligence of matter.
