Creative Share: Excellent, Exciting, Endless Possibilities is a showcase of the work created by James Kingsford, Emma Slater, Sam Bradley, Dylan Yardley, Jenny Hinchcliffe and Laura Negus at Pure Art Studio during their inaugural artist residency programme.
Over the course of the last 2 years, the artists at Pure Art Studio and artist in residence Laura Negus have worked together to develop an amazing collection of work. Each artist has taken inspiration from their own interests and experiences. What joins them together is an appreciation of clay as a medium for human connection.
Laura Negus joined Pure Art Studio to mentor the artists as they developed their practice. The artists focused on learning and developing throwing techniques on new potters' wheels which were added to the studio.
The artist's work began with drawings and photographs. The artists then used experimental clay techniques to pull together each strand of inspiration. The act of making opened up new avenues of enquiry that the artists explored further through more clay work, designs and research.
Manchester Craft and Design Centre's (MCDC) curator worked with the members of Pure Art Studio to plan the exhibition at MCDC. Collaboratively, we worked to create a space and design that welcomes our visitors and showcases not only the experiences and interests of the artists but also the joy of making.
Clay is excellent, exciting and full of endless possibilities.
Pure Art Studio is part of Pure Innovations, a registered charity that supports people with a learning disability or autism to create fulfilled lives with a sense of purpose and belonging. Pure Art Studio offers a place where people with a learning disability and an interest in art can develop their skills & thrive.
