Collect: the leading international fair for contemporary craft and design takes over Somerset House from 25-27 February 2022. This year’s fair offers a truly hybrid experience for visitors with a virtual showcase on Artsy and the return of its highly regarded talks programme.
Talk contributors include Crafts (issue 290) cover star Halima Cassell, finalists from the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize and House & Garden’s editor Elizabeth Metcalfe in conversation with antique dealer Max Rollitt.
Visitors can attend each discussion in the flesh as part of their entry ticket but if you can’t make it to London, all is not lost. Each event will be streamed online and Crafts subscribers can attend two of the talks for free. Scroll on to find out more and book your spot in the virtual audience.

The Fielding Talk: Alice Kettle

The Fielding Talk offers a unique opportunity to hear about an artist's work in depth. For Collect 2022, Alice Kettle has created new site-responsive work, exploring the histories and narratives of royal women who have resided at Somerset House. As well as discussing this commission, she will consider the shifting role of the artist in society at a time of profound change, how thread can be a powerful way to explore themes of cultural heritage, journeys, and displacement, and how her artistic and academic works connect and enrich one another.

Working in clay, stone, wood, bronze and glass, Halima Cassell draws on the universal language of pattern to sculpt monumental works with hypnotic geometry. In this talk, hosted by Crafts magazine acting editor Debika Ray, she expands on her process, inspirations, and ambitions.

As we celebrate the UN’s International Year of Glass, Crafts magazine brings together four makers pushing the material in fresh directions, experimenting with techniques, and turning up the heat. Hear from chair Matt Durran, curator of the 2022 British Glass Biennale; Elliot Walker, winner of the hit Netflix series Blown Away 2;; Brookfield Properties Craft Prize nominee Anthony Amoako-Attah; and award-winning artist Juli Bolaños-Durman, who will share insights into the glass market in the UK and beyond.
